Technical Description Of Vds Folding Doors
DOOR
This comprises a solid, rustproof metal frame, completely covered with imitation leather, with the whole structure moving almost silently on single and double wheels in an aluminium bearing groove.
BEARING GROOVE
This is made from an aluminium section with a rounded contact area to ensure the smooth movement of the double bearer rollers. Dimensions : 32 x 33 x 1.5mm. Groove 13mm.
BEARING ROLLERS
  1. The single bearing rollers consist of two akulon wheels, on real ball bearings, each fitted to a 5mm bar, and are suspended at regular intervals to the hinges.
  2. The double bearing rollers consist of four akulon wheels, on real ball bearings. The whole structure is provided with a 3mm suspension bracket, and attached to the front post.
FRONT POST
Rustproof tube of steel : 30 x 30 x 1.5mm.
REAR POST
Rustproof U-section of steel : 15 x 30 x 15 x 2mm.
HINGES
These are scissor-like and made from steel and electrolytic galvanised steel. Dimensions: 50 x 215 x 1.5mm. The rows of hinges are connected to each other with connection rods and electrically welded.
CONNECTION RODS
Are made of 5mm galvanised steel.
CLOSURE
The fastening comprises 2 aluminium sections, one fixed to the wall, one fixed to the front post, with a vinyl section. Powerful magnets ensure the state of open or close.
LOCK
On special request with cylinder lock and key on both sides or key on one side and a button on the other side
COVERING
Imitation leather of the highest quality is available in a wide range of colours, on special request in a fire retardant quality (M1).
FASTENING
The bearing groove is fastened to the ceiling and the rear post is attached on its side to the wall with clips. The bearing groove may also be fixed into a recess in the ceiling. The door has no groove or guide underneath (floor).

VISIBLE RAIL : RAIL A : rail fixed on the ceiling.

LEEWAY FROM THE FLOOR
Every door is made with a leeway from the floor of 7mm.
For example: opening of 2000mm => door is made on a height of 1993mm.
Pay attention, the wall profile will be 2000mm.
CLOSURE WITH MAGNETS, FOOT-BOLT AND TIE-BACK STRAPS
As already mentioned above, powerful magnets ensure the state of open or close.
The door is held open by an internal mounted magnet.
The door is held close by a half outside mounted magnet.
Doors from 10 folds : internal magnet is changed into an outside mounted footstop to hold the door open.
For doors with noise reduction is this already valid from 9 folds.
Tie-back straps are available to restrain partitions when stacked. Those are made in the suitable dimensions and in the same colour of the door. It gives an extra finishing touch to the door.
If the door is higher than 2500mm, there are standard 2 magnets mounted outside instead of one. You can order an extra magnet in option for doors less high than 2500mm, it guarantees a very strong closure.
DIVISION OF A DOOR TYPE 3
Normally we divide the door into 2 equal parts. The door can be divided unequally.
For example: one partition 5 folds, one partition 9 folds.
FREE WING
One of the advantages of the VDS-door is the flexibility. It is available with a floating partition so that you can open the door from both sides. The door is held on both sides with a strong magnet and it is NOT fixed to the wall.
DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT
If the ceiling changes in height in the door opening, our VDS-door can be made in an adjusted height. In the orderform, you can mention which side has to be made shorter and how many shorter than the other side.
RAIL IN RADIUS
It is possible to install a door in a radius (see our documentation) or in a S-form. The minimum radius has to be 1000mm.
PENDANT PULLS
A pull bar is the solution to avoid difficulties when you have to open or close large (+/- 3500mm high) doors. A pull-bar is fixed on both sides of the door; this means you will need 4 pull-bars for a door type 3.
SWEEP STRIP
If there is a sweep strip needed, the standard dimension of it is 10mm.
COLOURS
VDS keeps the right to change the colours of the simili. VDS has a big range of colours in standard and fire retardant.
EASY WAY OF INSTALLATION
  1. Prior to delivery the system will have undergone a factory quality check and the relevant components will be individual wrapped and the system delivered to site in a heavy-duty cardboard packing case.
  2. The ceiling track is screw fixed to a structural timberhead lining (by others).
  3. The rollers on the top of the partition are fed into the ceiling track by either taking down a section of track or being fed into the track before it is fixed.
  4. The spring fixing clips are screw fixed to the timber wall lining (by the cabinetmaker)) and the rear U-section frame of the partition unit is pushed on to the clips, thereby securing the partition back to the timber wall lining.
  5. For partitions comprising two units bi-parting the procedure at 4. above is repeated for the second partition unit. For systems comprising a single unit stacking at one end of the opening, the aluminium wall jamb is screw fixed to the timber wall lining on the opposite wall. The steel magnetic keep is then screw fixed to the aluminium wall jamb.
  6. Installation of the system is now complete.
DIMENSIONS FOR BUILT-IN FOLDING DOOR
These are dimensions informative for the cabinetmaker. The cabinetmaker has to deliver the plank.

  • Width of the moveable plank 260mm
  • Opening of the niche 240mm
  • Depth: depends on door opening see dimension B.

    The spring fixing clips are screw fixed to the plank (by the cabinetmaker) and the rear U-section frame of the partition unit is pushed on to the clips. The door is fitted (by us) with double bearing rollers instead of the usual T-element so the plank can slide against the opening of the niche, which assures a nice finishing touch.
